During the months of July and August Oriol Pi-Sunyer, Brooke Thomas and Henry Geddes (Communication) conducted fieldwork on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on how mass tourism is impacting the environment and influencing the lives of local people. This was the second year of a Wenner-Gren International Collarborative Research Grant. The team included Magalí Daltabuit (one of our PhDs), from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), colleagues from the state University of Quintana Roo (UQRoo), plus several undergraduates. Following field research we offered a two-day seminar, "Perspectives on the Study of Tourism and Sustainability," at UQRoo. It was enthusiastically received and we were invited to return.
